Side-by-Side Matrix

Finviz vs TradingView: Technical & Functional Capabilities

Evaluate both platforms across screening architecture, charting precision, custom scripting support, insider feeds, and subscription structure.

Decision FactorFinviz (Free & Elite)TradingView (Basic & Paid)
Screening universeUS stocks and ETFs, with descriptive, fundamental, and technical filters.Stock screening across global markets, plus separate screeners for other asset classes.
Custom screeningBuilt-in filters and configurable Elite thresholds. No Pine Script editor. The standard screener uses built-in filters. The separate Pine Screener evaluates compatible custom indicators on watchlists or indices.
Charts and heatmapsCharts, stock and ETF maps; Elite adds interactive intraday charts and multi-chart layouts.Interactive Supercharts, drawings, indicators, and stock, ETF, and crypto heatmaps. Layout and interval limits depend on plan.
AlertsElite offers email and push alerts for prices, news, filings, and screener or portfolio matches.Price and technical alerts, including Pine conditions. Webhooks send messages to external applications; they do not themselves place orders.
Scripted backtestsThe current Elite feature page does not document a user-code strategy engine. Confirm backtest availability before subscribing for that purpose.Pine strategies simulate orders in Strategy Tester. Commission, slippage, fills, and available history affect results.
Market dataThe current FAQ lists a one-minute delay for ordinary US stock quotes and real-time stock quotes with Elite.Data availability depends on symbol, exchange, and entitlement. A paid platform plan does not include every exchange data subscription.

Compare the same screening task

This is a documentation comparison, not a timed hands-on benchmark. To evaluate your workflow, use the same US stock universe and record the observation time, exchange, session, and data entitlement on each platform.

  1. Choose one valuation field and one technical rule. Match trailing versus forward P/E, daily versus intraday bars, and the moving-average period.
  2. Compare the resulting symbols. Investigate differences in missing fundamentals, update time, volume definitions, and extended-hours inclusion before attributing them to a better filter.
  3. Open a candidate chart on both platforms. Check whether the drawings, intervals, layouts, and alerts you need are included in your account.
  4. If the rule needs custom code, test it in TradingView. The ordinary stock screener cannot run Pine code; Pine Screener is a separate tool with its own limits.

Pine Screener accepts one compatible indicator per screen and calculates over the last 500 bars. It supports watchlists and indices, but does not run strategy scripts. A scan is not a continuously running chart alert. See the official requirements below before choosing a plan.

Free and paid access

What requires a paid plan?

Start with the free workflow, then identify the limit that blocks your task. Check the linked live plan tables for current prices, taxes, billing terms, and feature entitlements.

Finviz Free access

Included workflow

Try the standard stock screener, public maps, and stock research pages.

Limits to check

Stock quotes are delayed. Check the live plan table for limits on charts, saved screens, exports, and notifications.

Finviz Elite

Included workflow

Adds real-time stock quotes, extended-hours data, advanced filters, intraday charts, exports, and alerts.

Limits to check

The stock universe remains US focused. Monthly and annual billing include the same Elite features; a trial renews unless cancelled.

TradingView Basic

Included workflow

Start with interactive charts, built-in screening, and Pine indicator development.

Limits to check

Ads and lower chart, indicator, history, and alert limits. Check the relevant alert category, not a single combined alert count.

TradingView Paid plans

Included workflow

Higher chart, indicator, and alert capacity; advanced intervals and analysis features vary by tier.

Limits to check

Essential, Plus, Premium, and Ultimate have different entitlements. Budget separately for any required exchange data and check Pine Screener access.

Plan Selection Guideline:

For extended-hours US screening, review Finviz Elite. For custom indicators, start by testing Pine on TradingView, then choose a tier for the chart and alert capacity you actually need. A platform subscription and an exchange-data entitlement are separate decisions.

Manual workflow

How to Combine Finviz Screening with TradingView Charting

If you prefer Finviz filters but need Pine logic, use a manual screening-to-chart workflow. The following steps are a suggested method, not a claim of a built-in integration or improved returns.

1

Filter on Finviz

Select a stock universe and explicit valuation, liquidity, and trend rules. Save the screening time and criteria so you can explain why each candidate was included.

2

Import Watchlist

Add the candidate symbols to a TradingView watchlist and confirm the exchange for each one. TradingView import uses a .txt file with exchange-prefixed, comma-separated symbols, so a raw Finviz CSV may need conversion. Check export and import access in each account.

3

Inspect with Pine Script

Apply an indicator to each candidate chart, confirm its calculations, and create alerts where supported. A chart indicator does not automatically monitor an entire watchlist.

Example: confirmed chart breakout

This educational indicator marks a confirmed close crossing its EMA-plus-ATR band with a trend and volume filter. It uses the current chart only, does not read Finviz data, and has no tested profitability claim. Create an alert separately in TradingView.

Screen Stocks on Finviz, Then Build Custom Pine Indicators with Pineify

Write the technical rule you want to inspect on each candidate chart: inputs, calculations, signal timing, and expected alert. Keep fundamental screening criteria separate unless the required data is available in Pine.

The Pine Script AI Coding Agent can help draft code and review syntax diagnostics. Check the resulting indicator on TradingView before relying on its signals. Syntax validation does not prove a strategy is profitable or free from repainting.

Pineify Pine Script AI Agent

Draft and review TradingView indicator code

  • Generate custom indicators for screened stock watchlists.
  • Draft multi-condition indicator and alert logic.
  • Review syntax diagnostics, then verify behavior on charts.
